A Subsystem of the University of West Virginia Hospital System, lead the organization starting January of 2009 out of a money-losing system during the worst economic crisis in recent history. The system had a market share of 40%, Press Ganey results in the bottom 1%, core measures below the state wide averages, a productivity at 80% of standard, and a bad debt rate of 10%. Accomplishments were as follows:

  • Developed a Service Excellence program that improved Press Ganey score to upper 30th percentile
  • Improved productivity to 98% of standard after the system was implemented
  • Improved core measures to above state and national standards on almost every level
  • Cut over $2 million in costs out of the organization
  • Reduced the amount of management staff
  • Instituted a Leadership Training program for management staff
  • Implemented a Cardiac Catherization program to become an invasive cardiology program
  • Laid the groundwork for a wound healing center
  • Began construction to double the size of the emergency room and ICU to meet capacity constraints
  • Renegotiated several contracts for savings
