A Subsystem of the University of West Virginia Hospital System, lead the organization starting January of 2009 out of a money-losing system during the worst economic crisis in recent history. The system had a market share of 40%, Press Ganey results in the bottom 1%, core measures below the state wide averages, a productivity at 80% of standard, and a bad debt rate of 10%. Accomplishments were as follows:
- Developed a Service Excellence program that improved Press Ganey score to upper 30th percentile
- Improved productivity to 98% of standard after the system was implemented
- Improved core measures to above state and national standards on almost every level
- Cut over $2 million in costs out of the organization
- Reduced the amount of management staff
- Instituted a Leadership Training program for management staff
- Implemented a Cardiac Catherization program to become an invasive cardiology program
- Laid the groundwork for a wound healing center
- Began construction to double the size of the emergency room and ICU to meet capacity constraints
- Renegotiated several contracts for savings
- Negotiated the partnership with a competing ASC for joint ownership
- Expanded the clinical services offered at the Critical Access hospital
- Developed a Hospitalist program
- Reestablished broken relationships with referring physicians
- Lead an aggressive Physician Recruitment program for the greatest amount of recruits in one year
